Catching Up

  • 7 loads of laundry
  • 6 boxes of gifts opened
  • 4 items hung up on the wall
  • 2 trips to the grocery store
  • 1 trip to Tip Top
As you can see we've been doing a lot of catching up in the last few days. It's amazing how much there is to be done to get ready to head back to work tomorrow. Unfortunately I think we could both benefit from at least 2 more days at home before returning to work but we just don't have them.

Today I have been working on whittling down our over one thousand pictures from our honeymoon. I have finally gotten them organized and posted to Facebook and Picasa. Up next I will hopefully be posting a few on here and sharing the stories that go along with them.

Del Mar Horse Races

Today we decided to celebrate our honeymoon by meeting up with some friends at the Del Mar Racetracks. Marc came to the horse races with his office-mates about a month ago, but it was my first time at these races. We had a really good time betting on losing horses and hanging out with my coworker and her fiance. After the races there was a free concert by The Airborne Toxic Event. I hadn't heard of them before but surprisingly I actually recognized a few of their songs.

Coming Home

Today we travel home as Mr and Mrs Aquila. Okay, so my ticket and passport are still under my maiden name but what can you do? The flight from Reykjavik, Iceland to Boston, Massachusetts was really easy. We had no trouble getting the bus to the airport, checking in our three bags, and the 5 hour flight actually went by really quickly. Partly because I watched the movies Adam (definitely recommend) and What Happens in Vegas (a mindless watch) and partly because I like Iceland Air. Oh and as an added bonus we even flew over Portland on our way down to Boston.

When we arrived in Boston we knew we had 4 hours until our next flight so we charged up our electronics, had lunch and tried to look at some of the wedding pictures from our photographer. Then we boarded our plane to Houston. Or so we thought.

Halfway through our flight from Boston to Houston the pilot announced that some weather had developed in Houston. Since this weather was completely unexpected the plane did not have enough fuel on it to allow us to circle until it cleared so we were rerouted to New Orleans for some extra fuel and to wait for the weather to pass. Pros: it was my first time ever to Louisiana (although technically it doesn't count because I didn't leave the plane nor the airport) Cons: we were now wondering whether we were going to make our connection in Houston to San Diego because there was only an hour and a half between flights and we were now arriving 1.5 hours late.

Thankfully the travel gods were on our side. Our connecting flight to San Diego was also delayed by the weather. Our plane arrived at Gate E3, our flight to San Diego left out of Gate E2 and within 15 minutes we were boarded and on our way home. So happy to be back in San Diego we didn't even care that our luggage didn't make the flight.

Day One

Today somewhere out in Casco Bay on the floating Bay Mist I married my best friend. We are so lucky to have some of our closest friends and family with us as witnesses of the start of our life together as a family. The ceremony, the cocktail hour and the party afterwards were epic, the best party of the summer.

Today we also start this blog. As a way for our friends and family to continue to support us and stay up to date on the Aquila Homestead.
