February Photo a Day

My sister-in-law has been participating in the photo a day challenge throughout the month of January. I have to admit it's been really fun seeing the different pictures she has posted each day. Last week I saw that she is signing up for the February challenge and I've decided to join her. I am going to take a photo a day but I'm going to post them here weekly as my Photo Fridays. We'll see how it goes.

La Presentacion

I spent last night giving a presentation to parents of high school teenagers. There were about 20 parents there for my talk on "Nutrition for Academic Success". I was originaly told that I would be presenting in front of 50-80 people so I prepared this lovely powerpoint slideshow to share my information.

Oh yeah and it was all in Spanish.

I thought I would have been a lot more nervous then I actually was. I also thought I would have to refer to my notes more then I did. Overall though I would say it was a huge success. The parents were very interested they asked lots of good questions and I'm pretty sure I rocked the presentation. Oh yeah and my Spanish was spot on. I only hope that next time I am asked to do this they give me more then one days notice.

Dinner of Champions

*Photo from Mercury News

After watching the San Francisco 49ers beat the New Orleans Saints, Marc and I decided we needed a dinner of champions. With the help of the Smitten Kitchen we used our dutch oven to make braised beef short ribs for the first time. We paired these with mashed yukon gold potatoes, roasted brussel sprouts and a little Malbec to wash it all down. It was absolutely divine. I highly recommend the above recipe for those interested in attempting braised short ribs as they were pretty easy to throw together, forget about and then enjoy later.

Wellness Coordinator

I have some big news to share ....

As of today I am the new Wellness Coordinator at work! I'm not taking on a new job, rather I am accepting additional responsibilities for my current position. As the wellness coordinator I am responsible for overseeing the implementation of our worksite wellness program. What is that program? Well, I get to develop that too!

I'm pretty excited about this new opportunity. It's going to be fun to get back into program planning and implementation. Something I haven't had a chance to do since I was living in Washington DC. Additionally I get to work closely with one of my coworkers on this project which will be nice and I will be overseeing three additional coworkers. I think this is the perfect chance for me to let my organizational skills run wild.

New Years Resolutions

Apparently if it's not my uncle (Hi Uncle John!) telling me I need to blog more, it's my dad. I guess they are brothers after all. All I need now is my brother to call me and tell me the same thing and all of my male relatives will be on the same page. So ... this one is for you!

Marc and I have been sticking close to home so far this year. I have been the lucky recipient of Marc's new interest in cooking. To date I have enjoyed homemade French bread, homemade ricotta, homemade lasagna, pulled pork, and deliciously cooked steaks. While Marc has been occupying the kitchen I have been working on scanning all the recipes I have accumulated over the years onto my computer. Which means not only can I finally get rid of stacks of paper but I now can search through my recipes. One of our resolutions is to try out more new recipes this year.

Like the majority of America we have also been working on our resolution to get out and move more. This past weekend we found ourselves hiking at Torrey Pines State Park. Four and a half miles later I wound up taking not one but two afternoon naps on the couch. Hopefully this will not become a pattern and we can make the most of the running shoes we purchased each other for Christmas.

Well I think that is about it for now. I am hoping to have some more news to write about soon, but until then you will all have to learn to just be patient. Just like Marc's brother advised me when Marc and I first started dating.
